Property for sale in Thailand: Phuket
The spectacular Thai island of Phuket (pronounced ‘poo-ket’)
is situated in the clear waters of the Andaman
Sea, off the west coast of the southern part of the country. At 550
square kilometres in size, ‘The
Pearl of the Andaman’ is Thailand’s largest island, dominating
a large cluster of picturesque, smaller islands
and dramatic limestone towers thrusting from the sea. The unique, exotic
beauty of this area
leaves an indelible impression on visitors, many
of whom return time and again. In fact, Phuket is one of the most visited
destinations in
South East Asia, with an average of 3,000,000 visitors
each year: by far and away, tourism is Phuket’s major industry.
This is very good news for anyone considering investing in property

It was a constant stream of travelling backpackers
in the 1970s that effectively activated Phuket
as a tourist destination: sprouting from the ever-popular Patong Beach,
beachside accommodation
was constructed to meet the increasing demand
generated by the recognition that Phuket was a ‘secret paradise’ awaiting
discovery. The island has since become fully established as a world
class resort
destination, massively boosted by the building
of its own airport in the mid-70s. A causeway across the Chong Pak Phra
channel from
the mainland to the island ensures that tourists
travelling from elsewhere in Thailand can easily access the wonders
of Phuket.
So, what is the appeal of Phuket? Firstly, it is
truly beautiful; gently rolling hills, deep jungle,
sculptured rice paddies, rubber and pineapple plantations; coconut palms
and stunning
coastlines. The famed beaches of Phuket, of course,
add considerable allure to the island’s landscape, and there are
a great many to choose from. While there are some delightful secluded
coves on
Phuket’s east coast, the best beaches are to be found on the
west: Bang Tao, Karon, Kata, Mai Kao, Nai Harn
and the famous Patong beach - lined with bars, restaurants and nightlife – are
all to be highly recommended amongst the dozens of beaches on Phuket.
Phuket is surrounded by the beautiful, warm waters
of the Andaman Sea, providing welcoming and perfect
conditions for swimming, snorkelling and diving. Many parts of the sea
bed are decorated
with gardens of coral providing homes to thousands
of brightly-coloured fish, so getting up close to such a psychedelic
scene makes for an
extraordinary experience. Diving here is amongst
the best in the world, particularly in the waters of the nearby Coral
Island, the Phi Phi
Islands and Similan Islands – all easily reached by short boat
rides from Phuket. Just to think that purchasing
property in Phuket can ensure such enriching experiences are available
to you whenever
you want!
On the island itself, there is much to do and see.
Children will especially love the Phuket Fantasea
sealife centre, Phuket Zoo, the wild monkeys of the Sea Gypsy Village
and Patong Go-Kart
Speedway. Adults, meanwhile, can indulge in a
wide variety of ‘off-beach’ attractions
such as Khao Phra Thaeo National Park, incredible
sunsets at Prompthep Cape, the fascinating Marine Biological Research
Centre and Methee
Cashew Nut Factory and much, much more.
The very high volume of tourist traffic alone should
be information enough for anyone thinking of
investing in property in Phuket. Purchasing a property on this island
could prove to be
a very wise investment if you are looking at
the option of buy-to-rent. For almost four decades, Phuket has been
a hugely popular destination
for a whole range of visitors: backpackers, families,
couples, ‘eco’ tourists,
those after great sporting facilities and on
package deals; everyone falls in love with Phuket – and everyone
