Property for sale in The Far East
Property for sale in Thailand: Chiang Mai
Founded at the tail end of the 13th Century by
King Mangrai - who gave it the somewhat cumbersome,
now mercifully shortened original name of Nophaburi Sri Nakhorn Ping
Chiang Mai -
the important Northern Thailand city of Chiang
Mai is one of the country’s
great historical sites and, as a visually and
culturally powerful experience, a major tourist destination.
Home to in the region of 400,000 residents, Chiang
Mai presents a dazzling array of extraordinary
temples, monuments and buildings, some dating back to the city’s
origins. It is also surrounded by picturesque moat fortifications, but
is nonetheless
also a relaxed, modern city that is very welcoming
to visitors. Not only is Chiang Mai a fine city that attracts tourists
in its own right,
but it also provides easy access to the stunning
mountain region of Northern Thailand that pushes up to the Myanmar border.
Thailand’s second city, Chiang Mai is very much a walking city
that encourages exploration through its winding
streets, quiet neighbourhoods, ancient ruins and superb shopping areas
(the city being a noted Asian
centre of handicrafts), and around every corner
there is usually something of great interest with many stories to tell.
Two particular attractions of Chiang Mai are that
it is much cheaper than the south of Thailand,
and also considerably cooler. But is the almost overwhelming wealth
of amazing historical
sites that draws many to Chiang Mai. The temples
of Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chiang Man, Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phan Tao
(constructed entirely
from teak), are all essential, but the temple
on top of Doi Suithep hill to the west of the city is one worth that
extra effort to see.
From here, the views of the city and the surrounding
valley are simply breathtaking.
As fascinating and laid-back as it is during the
day, so Chiang Mai is full of life and eastern
mystique at night. Wander around the colourful
night bazaar to snap up bargains in local
silks, soaking in an atmosphere that has existed
in the city for centuries as a result of being
located on the River Ping that provided a trading
link with China. Dine in one of Chiang Mai’s excellent, good
value restaurants or bars, and watch the world
in this compelling destination revolve around
you.
As a major tourist destination, Chiang Mai naturally
offers the potential for excellent investment
opportunities in Thai property. A high volume
of seasonal tourism is a very favourable factor
for anyone considering purchasing Chiang Mai
property to rent. Please use our property search
